TRIEPKE LAUNCHES BID FOR MAYOR’S OFFICE TO RESTORE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Lisa Triepke believes property taxes in Missoula should not continue to increase annually, without fail. Recognizing the inability of Missoulians to continue to afford to live in the city they love, she’s challenging incumbent Mayor John Engen.
“I think Missoula can move toward the future in a different way. As a mother, I see things from a different perspective. I’m on a budget, and every penny counts, there is no option but to live within my means, as I’m sure it is for many Missoulians. The city should be the same way, maybe we can’t, or shouldn’t do every project all at once. I think we need to take a hard look at the tax dollars, and stretch them to make projects happen over time and to find a way for the city to do more, with the resources that they already have.”
It’s not just about taxes. Triepke also wants to bring more transparency to Missoula’s government. And now, she wants to hear from Missoulians.
“If we are truly working to keep Missoula a great place to live, we need to make sure we are making decisions that are clearly a representation of what our community wants, not just a vision of a few people behind closed doors making all the choices,” Triepke says.
Not a born politician, Triepke knows that there will be a learning curve to the job, “I know that there are things the mayor is very good at, and those are areas that I’ll have to work on. I’m not used to being in the public eye. But I am confident in talking about the issues and comfortable working with staff to find real life solutions.”
Triepke is excited about presenting the voters with a choice in November, “I feel I can lead this city with dignity, a high level of responsibility, and with integrity,” she says, “I have to be responsible, everything I do reflects on my kids.”
Lisa Triepke will hold a formal launch party on May 2 at 3:00 p.m. at the Iron Horse Brewpub. She wants to answer questions and hear what Missoulians have to say. Triepke will also be available for media interviews at this time.
